# ONC 2026 Ocean Expeditions

Our Spring 2026 ocean expedition has now concluded. Stay tuned for updates on our upcoming summer live expedition!





#ONCabyss ocean expeditions are scientific missions that support the maintenance and enhancement of Ocean Network Canada’s cabled major ocean observatories. These missions include the deployment and replacement of instruments as well as scientific sampling, and are conducted annually during spring, summer and fall. ONC observatories provide continuous monitoring of the ocean and seafloor, allowing real-time [data collection](https://www.oceannetworks.ca/data/) on marine life, climate change, and geohazards.

ONC charters vessels from organizations including the Canadian Coast Guard, Canpac Marine Services, and Ocean Exploration Trust for offshore maintenance of our cabled seafloor observatories. Technologies like remote-operated vehicles (ROVs), underwater cameras, hydrophones, and environmental sensors are used to monitor oceanographic conditions.

ONC’s [Ship2Shore program](https://www.oceannetworks.ca/learning/youth-programs-k-12/annual-events/) oﬀers formal and informal educators, students, and the public the opportunity to connect with ONC during at-sea expeditions. Using video conferencing, participants onshore can connect live with scientists, engineers, and ship crew to discuss ocean science, technology, and life at sea.
